Biewer Terriers are considered small with an average weight range of 4-8 pounds and measuring height of 7-11 inches at the shoulders. Although small is size they have big loving personalities to fill up a house, condo, or apartment. Biewer Terriers are very smart with potty training to use a litter box or going outside to potty. They are an ideal choice for a family home or single living style. Definitely easy traveling with a soft carrier or crate.

Training

Biewer Terriers are intelligent, quick learners with training. They have a fun-loving childlike attitude that makes them a great companion, so lots of praise with appropriate rewards during training is sure to be successful.

Haircare

Yes due to Biewer Terriers having no undercoat, they are non-shedding and hypoallergenic, with hair instead of fur. So people with allergy sensitivities can enjoy this small sized breed besides the bonus of less hair to clean up in your home.  If the hair is kept long, then they do require regular brushing, washing, and grooming.

Lifespan

Biewer Terriers average lifespan is 15+ years, given lots of loving care with good food. Wholesome natural food diet and limited exposure to toxic substances can be great benefit to extending the life. Low quality food and toxic substances are often associated with many health conditions that shorten a dog's life.

Health

The small size of the Biewer Terrier can create health issues that do arise commonly associated with all small toy breeds.  Maintaining a healthly weight with correct balanced food will extend a happy long life. Protection from the elements of weather and wearing a harness is recommended for comfort during walks. Holistic healthcare can help decrease the chances of developing health issues with all breeds.

History

Biewer Terriers are reported to begin in the 1980s with the birth of a unique tricolor puppy born at the German home of Werner & Gertrude Biewer who were established Yorkshire breeders. Later they selectively bred this dog with other Yorkies to develop the new breed mutation while referring to them as Biewer Yorkshire Terriers and working towards having them recognized as pure bred. American dog fanciers began importing from Gemany in the early 2000s and through DNA science Biewer Terriers were recognized by AKC in 2021.
